Alberta is a western Canadian prairie province. Alberta is the 4th largest province in Canada and is named after Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, the fourth daughter of Victoria; the Queen of Canada till 1901. Edmonton is the capital city and is the hub for Canada’s varied resources and supplies. Alberta is diverse in every way, be it the people, the landscapes or the culture.
Climate
Summers are warm and winters are extremely cold in Alberta, making the climate dry continental type. The average temperatures in summer range between 17-20 C with the maximum northern temperature at around 32C and 40C in the south. Winter temperatures range between -1C to -20C, sometimes dropping to -54C in the far north and -46C in the south. The annual precipitation ranges between 300mm to 450mm. The foothills of the Rockies, however, experience rainfall up to 600mm annually. Therefore, travelers are expected to be fully equipped with ample clothing since the temperature changes very rapidly in this region.

Adventure Sports: The summer, spring and fall is the best time to indulge in golf, camping, river rafting, horse riding, canoeing, boat tours and fishing. The autumn winters are just right for skiing in the Rockies. Apart from ice fishing, one has the option of dog sledging, snowmobiling, ice walks and skating. Afternoons can be spent tobogganing or taking a romantic moonlit sleigh ride in the snow.
Shopping: For people who love to shop till they drop Alberta’s capital, Edmonton has the world’s largest mall, called the West Edmonton mall. This mall is a one stop shop for art, handicrafts, apparels, boutiques, antiques and collectibles.
Wine and Dine: Alberta possesses world class restaurants for wine and fine dining apart from a number of options for street food lovers as well. Elk Medallions, Arctic Char, rare prairie oysters and wild boar ribs are enough to tantalize anyone’s taste buds. Also available is Guatemalan coffee and world famous Ice wine (a Canadian delicacy).
Events and Festivals: Being a people famous for festivals, Alberta is always keen to celebrate various events and festivals like art, music food and wine etc, displaying its multi cultural heritage. One needs to stay a little longer to take most of them in.

Cities and Towns: Villages like Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper are among a few of the famous camping sites and luxurious resorts. Calgary and Edmonton are the most popular cities to visit. Calgary boasts of rich cultural heritage and is home to ancient museums and fine art galleries. Edmonton on the other hand is the fashion capital, being home to a number of grand luxurious resorts and shopping destinations.
Parks and Recreation: Alberta has various parks like the famous Banff National Park and the Jasper National Park apart from numerous other recreational activities around the year.
