The province of Ontario is located in eastern Canada, bordered by Hudson Bay in the north, Quebec in the east, Manitoba in the west and the United States in the south. The province is named after Lake Ontario, which means “great lake”. Ontario is rich in culture, cuisine and natural beauty, most of all in and around its capital city of Toronto.
Climate
The climate of Ontario is divided into 3 parts. The south-west has mild continental climate with humid and warm summers and freezing winters. Annual rainfall/snowfall ranges between 750-1000mm. Central and eastern parts of the state have severe continental climate marked by hot summers and colder winters with ample snowfall, totaling 9.8ft annually on an average. The far northern regions have subarctic climate. Temperatures of -40 Celsius and lower can be reached here, with snowfall for half of the year. Annual precipitation is below 70cm in these parts.
Places to Visit
The Niagara Falls: These falls are a major attraction for visitors all over the world. They serve as a border between Ontario and New York. These falls were created as a result of glaciers that receded in the last ice age. Below the falls is a glass bottomed boat called Maid of the Mist on which visitors can take boat rides which pass close to the foot of the falls.
The Canadian National Festival: It is the largest fair in Canada. It is open between mid august to Labor Day. The major attractions include a 3 day international air show, besides midway rides, international food festivals etc.
The Thousand Islands: It is an area of great scenic beauty and one of the oldest and the best known holiday venues. A cruise amidst this maze of islands is very attractive. It is bordered by cozy log cabins and luxurious villas.
CN Tower: Located in the heart of Toronto, the former world’s tallest freestanding building attracts travelers from far and wide. Near the top a 24 square metre glass floor allows visitors to watch the streets below their feet. The tower also has a number of well known restaurants in the main pod of the structure.
St. Jacob’s Farmer’s Market and Flea Market: Located in Southern Ontario, it abounds in different types of meat, cheeses, kid’s rides, baking and local crafts, picnic areas and farm tours round the year. It is a major attraction for visitors looking to experience the rural and cultural side of Canada.

Theme Parks and Attractions: There are a huge array of theme parks, amusement parks, zoos, picnic spots like Wild Water Kingdom, Adventure Village, High Park and Dufferin Grove Park.
Sports and Gaming: A visit to a major league game as well as an ice hockey game is a must-see experience for any visitor. Ontario is also a home to world class casinos. For lovers of outdoors fishing, forest walks, trekking, bird watching, rock climbing, cycling etc are various options.
Shopping: Shoppers have a range of options ranging from high fashion to local crafts. Ontario has also given rise to some of Canada’s most talented fashion designers. Visit to boutiques, art galleries, handicraft studios, museum gift shops and on site wineries make for must-see Ontario attractions.
